Looks like I am going to head out again tonight and try to catch another falling star. I spent more than an hour outside last night, and it was amazing. About one "falling star" per minute. The second one that I saw was the brightest meteor/meteorite that I had ever seen. It blazed more than three quarters of the way across the sky. It made an amazing flash-bulb like flash before it disappeared into the darkness. A fine trail was left sparkling where it had met its end. The trail faded after about 5 seconds. Utterly amazing!
It fascinates me that we are so small on this large rock Earth being hurled through space. We are crossing into the trail of debris left by the Swift-Tuttle comet. Each time one of those little dust particles hits our atmosphere, we get a light show. If you are interested in watching, you may want to check out this watchers guide.
I have not had the chance to write all weeked. I will most certainly catch up in the next few days. Felt so good to get out of the house and traverse the countryside!
